Frances Pavletich has owned an independent bookshop, directed a literary festival, and holds degrees in English Literature and in teaching. While running Evening Books, she started Small Press Fest, dedicated to bringing together independent publishers from across Aotearoa. She has read thousands of books and knows what's good, what sells, what various publishers specialise in, and how challenging it is for writers outside of the university to get the help they need. Frances is committed to finding and supporting emerging writers, and is particularly interested in stories that blend genres, are funny, and are biting in their commentary.
Fiction Manuscript Assessment
Are you feeling stuck in the process of writing your novel? Feel like you need another eye to look over your work? A manuscript assessment provides an in-depth report identifying flaws and offering editorial guidance from characterisation to story development and plot. It will help you develop the strengths in your writing and offer clear direction for your current or next draft. Please note that this is not a line-by-line edit. It is overall feedback designed to pick-up on inconsistencies and repetition that is hard to see when a person is too close to the text.
Enquire about an assessment by emailing a brief summary of your novel, a three chapter sample of your writing, and the word count. Cost will vary based on length.
Other Writing
Are you submitting a piece of writing for publication? This package will look at the strength of the piece and offer advice about how to improve your writing overall. This could include suggestions on what to cut out, pointing out errors, and suggesting restructuring or rewriting certain sections to make it easier to understand. This type of editorial guidance would be more suitable for shorter pieces of fiction and non-fiction. Please provide a sample of your writing to ensure that it is a good fit. Cost will vary based on difficulty and length.
